Dermaplaning was once a trade secret in the modeling industry.  It is an excellent treatment by itself but also great in conjunction with IPL/Photofacials, rejuvenating laser treatment, microneedling and chemical peels.  Dermaplaning allows better penetration of your skincare.  We use a 10 gauge scalpel to manually exfoliate skin and vellus hair or “peach fuzz” on your face or body.  A peel is used afterwards.  This treatment improves the appearance of epidermal lines, evens the appearance of pigmentation, eliminates the feeing of dry, dull skin, and refines the appearance of pore size. The result is immediate and you will have fresh, bright, soft and smooth skin.  You will be glowing!  The long-term effects are increased cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots, reduction of acne scarring and the removal of fine facial hair.  Removing the peach fuzz is beneficial since the fine hairs trap debris and oils and give skin a dull look.   This treatment is recommended for all skin types with the exception of those who suffer from acne.  It is safe and effective for pregnant or nursing women.

What can you expect during your treatment?

Your face will be cleaned. Dermalplaning will be performed which is painless.  Your clean, dry skin is held taut and a sterile 10 gauge blade is stroked across the skin at a 45 degree angle exfoliating dry skin cells and vellus hair. Afterwards a lactic enzyme peel or other peels will be applied. You skin will be rinsed and luxurious products will be applied to smooth and nourish your skin.

What areas can be treated?

Face, décolleté, and arms

Will the vellus hair grow back thicker?

No.  It is physiologically impossible for vellus hair aka peach fuzz, to grow back thicker.  The hair will grow back as the same as before.

How often can this procedure be performed?

Monthly.  We are removing 21 days worth of dead skin cells.  It is best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.

What are the benefits?

After dermaplaning, skin care products and treatments perform much more efficiently since they can penetrate the skin more easily.  Your makeup goes on smoother as well.  It is also the perfect procedure to begin stacking other treatments such as chemical peels, serums, micro-needling and lasers.

How to prepare for treatment

Please avoid tanning the area to be treated. If you do go out in the sun, use complete sun block (>SPF), applied 2 to 3 times a day for at least 3 weeks prior to your treatment. Deeply tanned skin should be treated 4 to 6 weeks after active sun exposure. Schedule your treatments when you are not having your menstrual period as some women experience more pain with this treatment during their menstrual periods.

For 7 days before treatment, avoid taking anticoagulants (including baby aspirin, Advil, Motrin, ibuprofen, flax, fish oil and extra vitamin C and E). However, if you have been prescribed an anticoagulant (such as heparin or warfarin, Naprosyn, or any other blood thinner), then you must get permission from your treating doctor to have the treatment.

For 2 to 3 days prior to treatment, discontinue any irritant topical agents, such as alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, glycolic acids, resorcinol, and retinoic acid.

If possible, arrive with clean skin. There should be no lotion, sunscreen, make-up, perfume, powder, bath or shower oil, or deodorant present on the skin area to be treated. Your skin should be clean. If you do come in with something on your skin, please inform us, so we may clean your skin prior to the treatment.

After treatment instructions

Please avoid sunlight or use sunscreen religiously. You may resume using your retinol 3 days later. Otherwise you will look fabulous and may resume any activities.
